Ph.D. Student, Department of Astronomy / Steward Observatory

Joseph Long

Joseph Long uses data science techniques to pose and answer questions about planets outside our solar system (and the instruments we use to find them). His research interests include the application of dimensionality reduction techniques to high-contrast exoplanet direct imaging data, as well as enabling efficient processing of embarrassingly parallel workloads with careful software design and cloud services. He is advised by Dr. Jared Males, an Assistant Astronomer at the Steward Observatory in the University of Arizona. His interests in data science include machine learning techniques, image analysis, and the promotion of data science literacy.
