Maria del Refugio Lourdes Mendoza Fierro

Atmospheric Sciences and Hydrology

Lourdes Mendoza Fierro is a Ph.D. candidate in Atmospheric Science at the University of Arizona. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Geophysical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a Master of Science in Hydrometeorology from the University of Arizona. Lourdes’ research focuses on extreme weather and climate events in arid and mountainous regions, including northern Chile, northwestern Mexico, and the U.S. Southwest. Her work draws on weather models and climate data across timescales, using short-term forecasts, seasonal outlooks, and long-term climate projections to understand hydrometeorological risks and streamflow extremes. She is passionate about bridging science and applications across disciplines, sectors, and regions to support resilience and share knowledge.
