Join Greg Chism with the Data Science Institute to hear monthly speakers in the Industry Careers in Data Science Speaker series for Spring 2023. Speakers in the series highlight data science skills and backgrounds needed to be successful and how to apply for jobs, pursue data science careers, or establish new industry relationships. This series will start conversations between the attendees and speakers to foster local workforce development with UArizona graduates and students.

  • Topic: Leaning into being an academic: Lessons from a hiring manager   In a sea of data science, applicants standing out and selling their unique skills is difficult. I'll talk about the successful approaches I've seen as a hiring manager starting from the resume all the way through to the negotiation stage.  
  • Bio:  Nick DiRienzo is a Senior Data Scientist at Penske Logistics and an Adjunct Professor of Data Science at the School of Information at the University. Prior to that he managed data science teams at U-Haul as well as a Seattle based startup.  His academic background includes a PhD in Animal Behavior at UC Davis and postdoctoral work at Hokkaido University and the University of Arizona.
