Chosen Obih

Chosen Obih is a PhD student at the School of Plant Sciences, University of Arizona. Originally from Southern Nigeria, he earned a BSc in Biotechnology from Godfrey Okoye University Enugu and an MSc in Plant Sciences and Biotechnology from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. Before pursuing his PhD, Chosen worked as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at Godfrey Okoye University and as a science instructor at DNA Learning Center Nigeria, where he facilitated hands-on molecular biology training across Nigeria and Africa.

Chosen’s PhD research focuses on how plants perceive and respond to abiotic stresses. His work explores both conserved and specialized plant responses to environmental changes, focusing on RNA-based regulatory mechanisms such as long non-coding RNAs, RNA modifications, and microRNAs. While protein and DNA-based mechanisms have been extensively studied in plants, the intricate details of RNA-based regulation in stress responses, particularly in crop plants, remain less understood and largely unexplored. Chosen uses computational biology, comparative genomics, and biochemical techniques to investigate these mechanisms and their impact on plant response to environmental stresses.

Outside of his research, Chosen enjoys hiking and traveling with his family.
